SUPPORT RESPONSIBLE TOWN DEVELOPMENT

There is a grave concern among our residents with radical zoning changes and the influx of apartment development. Between June of 2018 and January of 2019, 1,000 apartments have been approved. People are concerned about these new developments and how they will impact our schools, burden our town services, and increase our taxes. On Day One, Mike will go to work to reverse the damage that has been done to the character of Trumbull these last two years. Mike and his team will bring strong integrity and good judgement to our land use boards.

ACCOUNTABILITY FOR OUR TAX DOLLARS

At a time when our residents are asked to do more with less, the current First Selectman proposed and accepted a $7,000 pay raise for herself, and is the only municipal chief executive in the State of Connecticut who has two chief administrative officers. A $1.6 million administrative building sits vacant and capital projects begun during the current First Selectman’s term have seen drastic cost overruns. Over the last two years, ordinances have been repealed to allow for pension double dipping, and town legal fees have increased $100,000 this year. As First Selectman, Mike understands it’s your money. Mike will work diligently to reduce the employee headcount, making government smaller and smarter.

PROVIDING OUR SCHOOLS WITH THE TOOLS FOR SUCCESS

The Trumbull Public Schools are in Mike’s DNA. This year, the current first selectman proposed a $2.3 million cut to public education in Trumbull. Teaching positions were eliminated, technology was slashed, student enrichment programs were cut, and student participation fees increased 105%. This year, Trumbull High School’s 2019 ranking declined significantly. Over the last year, our overall school system ranking went from 19th to 24th statewide. Mike knows our school system and will work to implement efficiencies between the Town and the Board of Education that will reduce operational costs, so we can make meaningful investments in the classroom.

PROTECTING THE PEOPLE OF TRUMBULL

The most essential obligation of the First Selectman is to protect the people of Trumbull. In this year’s Town budget, reports of domestic violence are up 8%, reports of assault are up 14%, reports of drug possession are up 27% and reports of sexual assault are up 45%. With recent stabbings and muggings throughout Town, Mike will give the Trumbull Police Department the resources they require to keep Trumbull secure. Mike is the man we can trust to keep us safe.
